TAKE ACTION

The newly released monarch butterfly numbers present a grim reality: both eastern and western monarch populations are still sharply declining. Our governors can help turn this around: please send a message today urging the creation and protection of monarch habitat in our communities.

Yes, I’ll speak out for monarch habitat

A primary cause of monarch decline is habitat loss. Monarchs need blooming native wildflowers, trees, and shrubs which provide nectar for the adult butterflies to feed upon, as well as native milkweed plants that are the sole food source for monarch caterpillars. The conversion of natural habitat to make way for cropland and development—along with landscapes dominated by turfgrass, non-native plants, and pesticides—is taking a steep toll.

Scientific studies have proven that urban green spaces that mimic the native habitat of pollinators, like the monarch, help the recovery of the species. ROGER lend your voice in support of efforts to create and protect monarch-friendly habitat in our parks, open spaces, along roadsides, and in demonstration gardens throughout our communities.

As the monarch’s annual spring migration north from Mexico begins, many of us are planting milkweed and native nectar plants in our gardens to help them survive. But immediate action must be taken by our elected officials to help protect the monarch and its remarkable 3,000-mile migration.

Please give struggling monarchs a boost by urging your governor to join in creating and protecting monarch habitat.

The restoration and conservation of monarch native habitat in the monarch’s breeding areas and migratory pathways is crucial to bring back this astonishing butterfly. Say YES to monarch habitat.

Thank you for taking action today for monarch butterflies.
