PHEASANTS FOREVER & QUAIL FOREVER NEWSLETTER from Sheboygan/Manitowoc County Chapter 590

Hello Chapter Members,

We have several good updates to share from around the chapter and our local conservation community.

The Cedar Grove-Belgium School District seeding project we supported has been completed and inspected. We are very pleased to see this project finished and will be watching the results with interest, especially following the dry spell that came shortly after the seed was broadcast.

The Wisconsin DNR has also begun a planned drawdown of the main waterbody at Collins Marsh Wildlife Area. The marsh will remain drained through the winter of 2026-27 to encourage native aquatic vegetation to germinate, improve future waterfowl and shorebird habitat, allow replacement of the water-control gates, and complete additional habitat work. While the drawdown will affect hunting opportunities this fall, the long-term goal is significantly improved habitat and hunting conditions in future years.

Closer to home, a great deal of work was recently completed at the Adell Public Hunting Grounds maintained by our chapter. Wildlife food plots, particularly for pheasants, have been planted. A special thank-you goes to our friend Rory, who contributed more than 15 hours of his time and used his own farm equipment to help make the work possible.

We publish chapter work days on our Facebook page and always welcome additional volunteers. These are great opportunities to get directly involved in local habitat work:

We also had a terrific turnout for our recent Lewis Shoot Brat Fry at the Manitowoc Gun Club. Thank you to everyone who supported the fundraiser, and especially to the Manitowoc Gun Club for their generous donation and continued support of our chapter.

The Manitowoc Gun Club has also graciously offered to host our chapter meetings every other month. This means we are making it easier for our Manitowoc adjacent members to get to our monthly meeting.  So, our very next monthly membership and committee meeting will be held there on Monday, August 17 at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public, so please feel free to bring a friend who may be interested in learning more about or becoming a member of the Sheboygan/Manitowoc County Chapter of Pheasants Forever.
