The Sheboygan/Manitowoc chapter of Pheasants Forever was named the Youth Chapter of the Year during the Wisconsin Pheasants Forever State Convention in Baraboo.

The award was earned through volunteer efforts to promote youth conservation education throughout 2014 as a Pheasants Forever chapter.

The Sheboygan/Manitowoc chapter celebrated the achievement with members and supporters during their annual fundraising banquet last weekend at the Millhome Supper Club.

“The future of conservation rests with the next generation,” said Craig Lukasavitz, president of the local chapter, in a press release. “We want to provide positive outdoor experiences for youth and their families. Sponsoring youth pheasant hunts and contributing to local high school trap teams are a few of the ways our chapter is making a major impact in local communities.”

An additional honoree as part of Wisconsin’s State Convention was Steve Klock, banquet chair for the Sheboygan/Manitowoc chapter. Receiving one of four “Faces of Wisconsin” awards at the meeting, Klock was touted as a volunteer who goes above and beyond the call of duty to enhance wildlife habitat and promote youth education.

“I’m humbled to receive this award for work that I enjoy doing on an annual basis,” Klock said in a press release.

The Sheboygan/Manitowoc chapter of Pheasants Forever has completed more than 575 wildlife habitat projects impacting nearly 3,000 acres. These projects include food plots, nesting habitat and wetland restoration projects on public and private lands.

Pheasants Forever, including its quail conservation division, Quail Forever, is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to upland habitat conservation. Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever have more than 135,000 members and 700 local chapters across the United States and Canada. Chapters are empowered to determine how 100 percent of their locally-raised conservation funds are spent, the only national conservation organization that operates through that structure.
