Manitowoc outdoors report details Paddle Palooza, Gun Club & Wildlife Federation banquet
Manitowoc Gun Club and Wisconsin Wildlife Federation will co-host their annual banquet Nov. 1. Plus, more from area sporting clubs and the DNR.
Manitowoc Unit of Manitowoc County Fish & Game set up a table at Two Rivers Paddle Palooza Sept. 13. This was to educate the public about wildlife, displaying different ducks, how to identify ducks and geese, and explaining what Manitowoc County Fish & Game does in the county.
They also sharpened knives — and boy did they get the fillet knives to sharpen with the cleaning station next to them!
Terry Busse and Roger Vander Logt were in charge of sharpening the knives. Ann Busse and Al Barner handled the duck ID section of the tables and information about Fish & Game.
Gun Club, Wildlife Federation banquet coming up Nov. 1
Manitowoc Gun Club and Wisconsin Wildlife Federation will co-host their annual banquet Nov. 1 at City Limits.
Enjoy a buffet-style meal anytime from 5 to 7 p.m. Ticket stations will also be selling raffle tickets from 5 to 7 p.m. Numerous raffles, silent auction items and special events are planned. Thousands of dollars’ worth of both men’s and women’s will be awarded to lucky winners.
Banquet tickets are $35 on or before Oct. 18 and $40 per ticket after that date. The ticket includes meal and a chance for the door prizes.
Ask about the pre-banquet raffle packages, where for $50 you get $75 worth of tickets. Those tickets can be used on all raffles, except for floor raffles, silent auction, split the pot or penny raffle.
Ticket packages must be purchased with a dinner ticket as no packages will be sold the night of the banquet.
To get tickets, raffle packages or any further information, ask for them at Manitowoc Gun Club or call Brian Schulz at 920-973-6938. Fill out a form and return it to Brian Schulz or in person at the Manitowoc Gun Club indicating the number of tickets and raffle packages with the correct amount of money. All checks must be made payable to Wisconsin Wildlife Federation.
DNR open house to show how salmon eggs are collected
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will hold an open house so the public can see how salmon eggs are collected to sustain our salmon populations.
Oct. 11, the public is invited to the Besadny Anadromous Fish Facility open house, at N3884 Ransom Moore Lane in Kewaunee. Stop by any time between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to watch salmon egg collection demonstrations, enjoy educational displays and take a guided tour of the facility.
The Algoma Kewaunee Great Lakes Sport Fishermen will also be providing wagon rides.
More details on this and other open houses can be found on the DNR’s events calendar.
Glacial Lakes Conservancy’s native tree and shrubs sale continues
Glacial Lakes Conservancy is holding a native tree and shrub sale where people can purchase trees and shrubs for themselves or have one donated to GLC to plant on one of its preserves.
Why plant in fall? Planting in the fall gives trees and shrubs an extra growing season before the stress of summer. The combination of cooler temperatures and fall rain allows trees to establish their roots, making it easier on them to adjust to extreme heat or drought in the summer.
Hosted by LaValley Home & Garden, proceeds benefit Glacial Lakes Conservancy. Order online now at https://www.lavalleyhg.org/fundraiser. Pickup will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 17-18 at LaValley Home & Garden, 820 Madison Ave., Howards Grove.
That’s it for this week, so have fun in the great outdoors.
