Manitowoc Gun Club, 3112 Clover Road, just south of Manitowoc, will host Shoot for Vets from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 14.
This is a 50-target, Lewis-class event. The first 25 targets will be shot from the 16-yard line, and the second 25 targets will be handicapped.
All proceeds go to the United Veterans Council.

Maribel club’s archery tournament this weekend
Maribel Sportsman’s Club will hold an archery tournament Sept. 6 and 7.
Registration will be from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. both days.
The mostly wooded course features 25 3-D targets. Food and refreshments will be available.

Exchange deer hides for leather deer skin gloves
Alan Arkens from Sandy Bay Mink Ranch in Mishicot will be taking fresh or frozen deer hides with the tail on in exchange for leather deer skin gloves. He will have a drop-off point.

Reedsville club’s steak fry is Sept. 13
Reedsville Sportsman Club will hold a steak fry from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 13. Cost is $30 per person and includes a 16-ounce ribeye cooked to your liking, baked potato, salad bar and dessert. Chicken breasts will be available for those who don’t want a steak.
Proceeds go to the Reedsville Sportsman Club youth trap program.
Only prepaid tickets will be guaranteed a steak.

Rifle & Pistol Club’s hunt safety course starts Sept. 9
Manitowoc Rifle & Pistol Club, 7227 Sandy Hill Lane, Two Rivers, will hold its hunter safety course Sept. 9, 11, 16 and 18, all from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and finish up from 9 a.m. until noon Sept. 20.

Challenge the Outdoors’ fundraising banquet is Sept. 18
Challenge the Outdoors will hold a fundraising banquet Sept. 18 at Woodfire Lodge, 2687 Man Cal Road, Brillion.
Doors will open at 4 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. and free beer and soda will be available from 7 to 10 p.m.

First-time predator pheasant hunt slated for Sept. 27
Sheboygan-Manitowoc Pheasants Forever Chapter 590 is holding a first-time hunter pheasant hunt Sept. 27 at Thunderbird Game Farm in Collins. It starts at 7 a.m. and goes on until 2 p.m.

Fish & Game meets Sept. 10
Manitowoc Unit of Fish & Game will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at Lincoln Park Cabin No. 1.
As always, meetings are open to the public and feature a brief business meeting, speaker and lunch. It is a great way to connect with other sporting men and women before the upcoming hunting season.
The September speaker will be Ranger Sara Nelson of Camp Sinawa. The Manitowoc Unit works to offer a variety of speakers and topics to inform members and the community on issues important to conservation in Manitowoc County.
The Manitowoc Unit also announced it is seeking youth partnership opportunities in the community. The club is working to connect with area schools and other organizations to find opportunities to get more youth involved with conservation and the outdoors. This could be everything from supporting fishing and trap shooting clubs to funding targeted education programs. Contacts and inquiries can be made through the mantyfg.com website.
It was also noted that applications for FORWARD Endowment grants will begin later in September.
Still time to register for ‘Fall Star Party’ at Woodland Dunes
Woodland Dunes Nature Center & Preserve presents “Fall Star Party” from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sept. 20.
View night sky constellations with astronomers Al and Ben, along with the moon and other celestial objects through the big telescope in the Sky Shed. You can even take your own telescope if you need help figuring out how to set it up.
The event is held weather and sky conditions permitting. It takes place outside the Nature Center. Registration is required by Sept. 18 to Jess at jessicaj@woodlanddunes.org or by calling 920-793-4007.

Sept. 13 is opening day for Wisconsin’s archery and crossbow deer season. Good luck to the hunters out trying to put venison in the freezer.
