Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton defeated incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in the Republican Senate primary runoff on May 26, 2026. Paxton will advance as the GOP nominee to face Democrat James Talarico in November in one of the country’s highest-profile U.S. Senate races.
Paxton secured President Donald Trump’s endorsement just a week out from the runoff election and thanked the president during his victory speech in Plano, Texas. “His endorsement is the most powerful force in politics,” Paxton said.
