Wisconsin Waterfowl Assn. Newsletter For January 2019

JANUARY 2019

Happy New Year!
By Bruce Urben, President

Bruce UrbenGreetings!
The Wisconsin Waterfowl Association is pleased to announce we have hired Bruce Ross as our Executive Director.  Bruce will officially join the WWA team on Monday, January 21st. We are fortunate to have someone of Bruce’s caliber join the WWA leadership team.  He brings an impressive and diverse leadership resume in business, government, and non-profit management that will accelerate WWA’s impact. Ross settled in Wisconsin after retiring with 28 years as a captain in the US Coast Guard, and then managed major avionics development projects and later, a mid-sized insurance operation.  He has also been personally recognized as a leader in non-profit conservation organizations focused on wetlands and waterfowl.  He currently serves as an elected county official overseeing land and water issues for Ozaukee County.
WWA Executive Director Bruce Ross

“I’m more than a little humbled to steward WWA during this challenging time; a time when wetlands are under increasing threat and hunter numbers are shrinking,” said Ross in a recent conversation.  “We face a time-sensitive challenge to expand our positive influence on wetlands, and increase Wisconsin’s waterfowling opportunities.”

Ross admits that, “I have a lot to absorb. I look forward to meeting with WWA leaders, volunteers and members to gain their perspectives on how we can meet these challenges together.”  But he also has a game plan, stating, “One of my first ‘orders of business’ will be to make sure we have clear goals and that our organization’s strategy is aligned from top to bottom to achieve them. Then we can smartly work to strengthen WWA’s capabilities: its membership, its volunteers and its financial resources,” he continued.  Ross also looks to boost partnerships, saying, “It’s important to leverage WWA strengths in collaboration with organizations that have ‘common cause’. Our impact will be so much greater.  And we’ll be able to deliver more waterfowling opportunities to Wisconsin hunters.”
You can meet Bruce Ross at the upcoming WWA State Meeting being held at City Inn Bar and Grill in Berlin, WI on Saturday January 26th and read his full biography here.
