Sandhill cranes are great to eat, tastes like beef.

How many of you have the OUTDOOR CHANNEL on your cable?  On Wednesday Nov. 8th, in the afternoon, the show called INSIDE OUTDOORS TV had a show on SandHill Crane hunting in Oklahoma. Man, you should see the thousands of birds flocking in their fields. I was a super great program and the way they hunted the birds was super interesting.  The guides used decoys and they worked really well. The decoys were homemade and to like th ereal thing. Once they got their limits, the crew took the birds back to the shed and took out all the meat they planned on eating. They had two world famous chefs of cooking wild game to prepare the food. All of you might have heard the saying that Sandhills are the Rib-eyes in the Skies. Well, the people on this show proved the birds are the best thing in the sky to eat.

They took the breast meat and leg meat and cooked it over an open fire pit with wood. They cooked the meat to about 130 to 140 degrees and most of the guest claimed the meat tasted like beef.  I sure wish Wisconsin had a hunting season for the birds as the other day by County Road B and Goodwin Rd. ( Manitowoc County, North side of the city) I bet there was close to 1,000 birds between all those fields. Lets all work to get the hunting season into law.
