Today, the California Department of Justice issued a “Notice of Modification” to their proposed regulations regarding the soon to be implemented ammunition background check procedures. As a result of these changes, a second 15-day public comment period has been initiated. We are currently reviewing the proposal and will update members on the effect of these changes.

After receiving a notice of disagreement for the House amendments to both Senate Bill 600 and Senate Bill 1466, the conference committee has met and agreed to the House amendments for both bills.  The bills will be voted on again in the Senate as early as today.

On April 22nd, the Maine State and Local Government Committee will hold a hearing on Legislative Document 1470.  LD 1470 would weaken Maine’s preemption laws to allow local municipalities to create a patchwork of laws, including prohibitions on where law abiding citizens may carry.
