NOTE: This is an email sent to all Manitowoc County Fish & Game Prot. Assn. directors to inform all their clubs of this action by the Joint Finance Committee. Sportsman, you need to know what our legislators are doing with our money.
Hello all,
Not sure you are aware but Joint Finance Committee (with our Senator LeMahieu as a member) finished it budget this past week. As you know the major Sporting groups in the state were asking for stamp fee increases for both Great Lakes and Inland Trout stamps as well as the Waterfowl stamp. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen even though it has been almost 20 years since the last increase. What is even more troubling as a sportsmen is they took $100,000 for the Fish and Wildlife Account which is funded by hunting fishing and trapping and gave it to the deer farm industry to do research on CWD genetic resistant deer. The leading researcher is Dr. Nick Haley and I have heard him speak several times. He states that this would be helpful for captive deer it has little to no real practical application on a wild deer herd. Not sure why Joint Finance would give the sportsman’s dollars housed in DNR to a private industry that is regulated mostly by DATCP? Very troubling and it may be helpful to share this with your legislators no matter how you feel about this.
Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
Thanks, Larry
