Michigan S3DA Hosts 1st Indoor Regional Tournament of 2021
|
Williamsburg, KY – (February 6th-7th, 2021) Michigan S3DA archers were anxious for the day in which they would be able to compete again. Michigan, like much of the country, has dealt with COVID-19 outbreaks that have caused restrictions and cancellations on events. The first regional event scheduled for Michigan S3DA was expected to take place on January 16th but was cancelled due to a COVID outbreak. Outbreaks from this virus have the potential to affect not only just the facility and attendees, but also the broader community in which the players and coaches reside. However, Michigan S3DA staff worked diligently to pull off the first Indoor Regional event in two locations: Rising Phoenix and Central Michigan Sportsman’s Club. Each venue provided multiple line times to keep the number of participants limited while masks and social distancing were required.
Michigan S3DA staff had a maximum of 10 archers per line time to comply with the Michigan COVID Guidelines. Forty-four archers from four S3DA teams traveled to the facility closest to their home to compete. The archers were ecstatic to be able to compete and very encouraging towards one another. Everyone was excited to just be able to shoot again.
Michigan S3DA State Coordinator Cara Waite stated, “Many COVID safety measures were implemented and followed at each facility. Everyone wore masks at all times except archers while in the act of shooting. Hand sanitizer was located throughout the facility and each archer was allowed only one spectator. Also, Rising Phoenix had dividers in between each archer on the line. Many archers and parents expressed how thankful they were that we were able to get back to competitions and the friendships with their fellow archers. It was really nice to be able to see our Michigan S3DA archery family! We look forward to a better year and more S3DA competitions in 2021.”
About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
