Manitowoc County Fish & Game gives to trap programs, wood duck and bluebird house program
Several local clubs and organizations are hosting upcoming events, including a snowmobile safety course and an annual banquet.
During the September meeting of the Manitowoc County Fish & Game, Nel Spangler of the Maribel Youth Trap Program gave a rundown of how its trap program is going and the costs for the kids. Fish & Game voted to give the club $500 to offset costs for the shooters.
Trinity Popp, team captain for the Mishicot High School Trap Program, also shared how its program was going and asked for sponsorship. So, Fish & Game gave that program $500 as well.
The directors also decided to again sponsor the wood duck and bluebird house project organized by Maribel and Francis Creek sportsmen’s clubs. The directors gave $2,000 for that project. This is huge because a donation of that size covers about half of the project’s annual costs. The rest of the costs are covered by smaller donations from other clubs, businesses and from people who stop in to pick up the houses. As always, these houses will be available sometime in January — watch this column for when they are ready for distribution.
Gun Club thanks Shoot for Vets supporters
Manitowoc Gun Club is thanking everyone who participated in the Shoot for Vets event Sept. 14. The shooters, raffle prize participants and hungry people who bought food made the event a success.
The club thanked all the businesses and anonymous donors who gave to make the raffle a success.
The club also gave a special thank-you to Will Boness, Lee Fisher, Fred Hansen, Dennis Kozowloski, Lee Simonar, Tom Staskel, Dan Stenzel and Jim Stephani for giving their Lewis winnings to the Shoot for Vets.
The club also thanked all the anonymous cash donors for their contributions, too.
And last, but not least, the club thanked the volunteers from the Manitowoc Gun Club and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 731 for giving their time and talents to keep everything running smoothly.
Profits will go to the Manitowoc County United Veterans Council for distribution to qualified veterans of Manitowoc County who need financial assistance.

Gun Club, Wildlife Federation annual banquet nears
Manitowoc Gun Club and Wisconsin Wildlife Federation will be co-hosting their annual banquet Saturday, Nov. 1, at City Limits. Enjoy a buffet-style meal any time from 5 to 7 p.m.
Ticket stations will also be selling raffle tickets from 5 to 7 p.m. Numerous raffles, silent auction items and special events are also planned. Thousands of dollars’ worth of both men’s and women’s items will be awarded.
Banquet tickets are $35 on or before Oct. 18 and $40 per ticket after that date. A ticket includes meal and a chance for the door prizes.
Ask about pre-banquet raffle packages — for $50, you get $75 worth of tickets. Those tickets can be used on all raffles except floor raffles, silent auction, split the pot or penny raffle.
Ticket packages must be purchased with your dinner ticket; no packages will be sold the night of the banquet.
To get tickets, raffle packages or any further information, ask for them at Manitowoc Gun Club or call Brian Schulz at 920-973-6938. Fill out the form and return it to Schulz or in person at the Manitowoc Gun Club indicating the number of tickets and raffle packages with the correct amount of money. All checks must be made payable to Wisconsin Wildlife Federation.
Woodland Dunes presents ‘Wild Families: Scat & Tracks’
Woodland Dunes Nature Center & Preserve in Two Rivers will present “Wild Families: Scat & Tracks” from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18. Admission is $3 per child for members or $4 per child for non-members.
Calling all nature detectives! Learn about tracks and scat identification through various hands-on activities. Then, test your knowledge as you discover what animals have been walking on the trails, too. Best for ages 6-12 years. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Some portions of the program will be led by staff while others will be for families to explore on their own. Dress for the weather — a majority of the program takes place outdoors.
Registration is required by Tuesday, Oct. 14, and space is limited. Payment is taken at the program and cash is preferred. To register, email Jess at jessicaj@woodlanddunes.org or call 920-793-4007.
That’s it for this week, so have fun in the great outdoors.
