It’s Back: Washington, D.C., Fur Ban to Receive Hearing

The bill to ban the sale of furs in Washington, D.C., has returned. Tomorrow, Dec. 8, at 9:30 am, the Washington, D.C., city council Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety will hear Bill 24-0758the “Fur Products Prohibition Act of 2022.”

As previously reported, Bill 24-0758 outlaws the sale of fur products throughout D.C. with exemptions for taxidermy and leather. This ban leaves trappers and others who rely on fur products as a business with no way to sustain their activities. The impacts will be felt far and wide, including on all-fur products and any items that use fur in production, such as fishing lures, boots, gloves or other clothing, jewelry and toys.

This bill is nothing more than the D.C. city council kowtowing to animal-rights extremists and their so-called “feel-good” rhetoric. Instead of recognizing that the sale of furs is part of vital wildlife management, D.C. officials want to join with animal extremists and engage in woke politics by telling citizens what they can and can’t wear or have available for sale in the District.

Please use the TAKE ACTION button below to email the members of the Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety urging them to OPPOSE the “Fur Products Prohibition Act of 2022.” Don’t forget to ask your friends, family and fellow sportsmen to do the same. The D.C. city council needs to know that Bill 24-0758 only works to destroy America’s outdoor heritage.
