| We apologize for the duplicate emails – the links in the 1st two email were incorrect and this email corrects them.
In upcoming emails and blogs, Wisconsin Lakes will outline why we support the Coalition’s position on reasonable regulation of enhanced wake recreation: 700 feet from shore, 30 feet in depth, maintaining local control (LINK), and preventing transfer of aquatic invasive species through ballast tanks. We will also outline why we believe 100 contiguous acres are needed to ensure recreational safety. This email continues our conversation on aquatic invasive species.
Following our last email outlining Wisconsin Lake’s support for increased regulation of ballast systems to prevent the spread of virulent aquatic invasive species, a number of members asked for more information.
Check out our blog (HERE). Wisconsin Lakes intends to keep this conversation going by having discussions with DNR and Legislative staff, other advocacy groups, and YOU. Attend our Annual Membership Meeting on 12/9 at 4:30pm via zoom or ask us to present at a local or regional meeting. Contact us at info@wisconsinlakes.org.
We can do this! Remember, the administrative rule which banned DDT was initiated by citizen petition in the early 1970s. It is an example where public opinion was ahead of where the DNR was prepared to go. Because of that action, occupied bald eagle nests went from 108 in the 1970s to 1,684 in 2019!
As Margaret Mead noted, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” |
