You may have heard by now, but CWD has made its way to Sheboygan County There was a positive detection in a wild deer taken during the bow season. This positive test result kicks in a couple of actions in response to new detections.
- An effort is being made to get increased numbers of tests from deer in the county in the next month. The two CWD kiosks in Sheboygan County will remain in place for the remainder of the season (Jan 31). Anyone hunting in Sheboygan County, and especially West of the Plymouth area, please get all deer tested. Epidemiologists need to reach minimum test numbers, given a specific population size, so that they can be confident in the distribution and prevalence of a disease.
- The two carcass dumpsters will remain in Sheboygan County until at least January 6th. Please use the dumpsters to dispose of all deer carcasses and parts. The dumpster at the Plymouth DNR Service Center has been used a lot this year, and has had to be emptied a few times already. We will be working with DNR on additional dumpster locations for the 2020 deer season.
- Be on the look out for announcements about a public meeting on this new CWD detection and what will happen going forward. That meeting will be held some time in January. We will let our membership know as soon as we hear more details on a time and location.
In the meantime, let’s all help get the word out there to our friends and neighbors. WI BHA can only reach so many people on social media and through emails. We need our members to share news and information with the people around them, especially as many of us will be gathering around the holidays and sharing hunting stories.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions.
