Wisconsin lawmakers are proposing a Constitutional Amendment through Assembly Joint Resolution 112 to strengthen protections for the right to keep and bear arms. The resolution would require courts to apply strict scrutiny to any law that restricts this fundamental right. AJR 112 has been referred to the Assembly Committee on Judiciary and is planning to be scheduled for a hearing on January 7th. AJR 112 would amend the Wisconsin Constitution to require courts to apply strict scrutiny when reviewing laws that burden the right to keep and bear arms. This is the highest level of judicial review and ensures that any restriction on this fundamental right must be narrowly tailored to serve a compelling government interest.
