Illinois S3DA Hosts 3rd Indoor Regional Qualifier
|
Williamsburg, KY – Hamilton Co. Fox Archery Club held the third Indoor Regional for Illinois S3DA at White Co. Archery range in Carmi, Illinois. Social distancing guidelines were implemented and everyone, including spectators, wore a mask to the event. The host club provided additional safety precautions by limiting line space, running two separate lines at different times for the allotted number of archers and providing a deep cleaning between the two shooting times. Forty-eight archers competed in this event for the opportunity to qualify for the Illinois S3DA State Indoor Championship and become the 2021 Illinois S3DA Indoor Shooter of the Year.
Regional Coordinator Donnie Millenbine and other coaches were pleased with the number of archers that traveled and participated in the event. When asking Donnie about the unpredictable times and what these kids are going through, he remarked, “It is really good to just see the kids competing again.” When talking with several of the kids, they were excited to be competing again and looked forward to more as the year continues. Even with restrictions in place, no one at the event seemed to mind, because they were so happy to be able to compete.
“In these trying times, seeing the students working together safely while still competing is a fantastic thing. Fox Archery Club in Hamilton County, Illinois would like to thank everyone who came out to participate in this event. We look forward to the 2021 season!” stated Michael Davenport, Head Coach of Fox Archery.
About Scholastic 3-D Archery
Scholastic 3-D Archery (S3DA) is a unique, family-oriented youth archery program which has grown exponentially across the United States as a next-step initiative to follow introductory archery programs. The mission of the Scholastic
3-D Archery program is to foster, educate and guide youth in the areas of 3-D, indoor target, and outdoor target archery as well as safe, ethical bowhunting practices. The goal of the S3DA program is to provide archery and bowhunting opportunities to youth in after-school settings, as well as with archery-affiliated clubs and businesses in the community. S3DA students participate in 3-D and target archery using compound and traditional archery equipment. Students can participate at local, regional, state, and national archery events and earn college scholarships from colleges and universities across the United States. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
