The various disciplines offered through the 4-H Shooting Sports Program are a perfect match with WTU’s Staying on Target program which is why this past year Whitetails Unlimited has awarded a $109,000 to local 4-H Shooting Sports Programs throughout the country. The partnership between Whitetails Unlimited and 4-H started over 25 years ago.
The shooting sports program is one of the most popular 4-H projects with more than 300,000 youth involved every year. In most states, it has the largest enrollment of all projects. Youth in the program learn marksmanship, the safe and responsible use of firearms, the principles of hunting and archery, and much more. The activities of the program and the support of caring adult leaders provide young people with opportunities to develop life skills, self-worth, and conservation ethics.
“In addition to shooting sports programs, WTU is also an annual contributor to the 4-H Regional Instructors Training Workshops,” says Whitetails Unlimited Program Services Director Russ Austad. “These national Training Workshops are held annually in various regions of the United States where 100 volunteer leaders attend the five-day workshop to become certified to conduct state-level workshops in their home states.”
