Well, one more year is just about over and many of us have had one wild year of up and downs. In the field of conservation, many new issues were discussed and one of the hottest ones I feel was the Deer Farm issue with hearings on Double fencing of deer farms. CWD is not going away any time soon, so every day we have deer escaping from a deer farm, has many hunters up in arms. Is double fencing really the way to go? Should we get rid of deer farms? CWD is not just a Wisconsin problem. CWD is popping up in many other states around the country, including those in the far south.
In the spring of the year there is usually a meeting or two of the CDAC committee which is made up of citizens (just like you & me) who make up the rules for our county’s deer hunting seasons. Yes, citizens, not the DNR, who make up the rules for each county on how many deer we can kill or get permits for. One other thing new for 2018 was the enlarged Metro unit, which started at the Southern county line from the lake to I-43 runs north to State Hwy 310 then goes east along 310 to County Hwy B and goes north to the Northern county line. Everyone living in that area was happy to see one more permit with their licenses.
The youth hunt this year was good for many of the youth today. I personally was able to spend time with my 11 year old grandson and son while we were hunting. We spent the Friday before the hunt making sure his gun was sighted in properly, and Saturday and Sunday was two days in my life I will never forget. Lucky for us, my son video taped the whole event and we will have it on our files for my grandson to enjoy for the rest of his life. In fact, for us to witness three bucks fighting over 2 does was enough fun by it’s self.
Now we all can hunt deer until the end of January for the 2018 season. I’m hoping for everyone to enjoy their holiday season and remember, your 2nd Amendment Rights will be under attack come the 2019 year, so please, join a club or organization that fights to protect your Rights. My son and I would like to thank all the clubs and public for their input into this website and I would like to invite all of you who is reading this to join some of the many sportsman clubs in my county with membership fees of $5.00 per year to $35.00 and some offer family memberships. A club membership makes a great gift whether it will be for a birthday or Father’s Day, Mother’s Day or just a gift of kindness.
God Bless all of you and feel free to contact us if you have any suggestions. Roger & Jeff Vander Logt
