Summer At Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area

The boardwalk is just one trail option at Horicon Marsh.

Hiking, paddling, birding – Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area is the perfect place to make the most of summer.

With more than 5 miles of hiking trails, scenic overlooks and observation blinds, you can experience the marsh at your own pace, listening to the wind blowing through the cattails, the songs of the sparrows and the honks of the Mississippi Flyway geese.

Wanna hit the water? The wildlife area has a 6.5-mile paddling trail you can access from four boat landings, making it easy to experience the largest freshwater cattail marsh in the contiguous U.S. from the water.

If birding’s your thing, Horicon Marsh is the place for you. There are more than 300 recorded bird species there, from the endangered Forster’s tern and black tern to sandhill cranes and great blue herons.

When you’re there, don’t miss the Explorium, an interactive space where you’ll walk through a glacier, meet a mammoth, talk with settlers, ride an airboat and more to learn the story of the marsh.

Make plans to visit Horicon Marsh this summer. Head to our website for more info.
