Spring hearings & more in the latest Manitowoc outdoors report

Wisconsin Conservation Congress and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources invite the public to attend spring hearings this month.

In Manitowoc County, the spring hearings will be at Lakeshore College in Cleveland — in the Lake Michigan Conference Room, L260, from 6 to 9 p.m. April 14.

DNR staff and WCC delegates will be on hand to discuss local issues of importance, answer questions, and open a dialogue between the public, the DNR and the WCC.

The public can give feedback on a variety of fish, wildlife and other natural resources-related topics at the meeting, or online from 7 p.m. April 14 to 6 p.m. April 16.

The WCC will also hold delegate elections during the spring hearings. Two of five WCC seats will be up for election in each county.

Challenge the Outdoors’ Sporting Clays Shoot/Fundraiser is April 12

Challenge the Outdoors, Inc., which provides hunting, fishing and other recreational opportunities for people with disabilities, will hold its 27th annual Sporting Clays Shoot/Fundraiser April 12 at J&H Game Farm, west of Navarino.

Shooting is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is $30 for the first round of 50 targets and $25 for additional rounds. Complimentary lunch is included (brats, hot dogs and more).

The event includes a main raffle and bucket raffle with a variety of outdoor and sporting equipment available. Find more info at CTOforME.org.

Ducks Unlimited banquet April 23

Lakeshore Ducks Unlimited’s banquet will be April 23 at City Limits Bar and Banquet Hall, 3627 County CR, Manitowoc.

Ticket options and pricing are as follow:

  • A single ticket is $55 and includes meal, membership and chance at a door prize.
  • A special couple’s ticket is $100 and includes two banquet admissions and one membership.
  • A special eight-person table seating is $385 (eight for the price of seven).
  • A special eight-person table seating with a gun is $835 and includes eight members, eight dinners and a table-only gun raffle.
  • A special sponsor and guest seating is $275 and includes a ticket for the sponsor and a guest. For every seven sponsors, a sponsor prize will be given away.
  • A special sponsorship and table of eight seating is $635. Reserve a table and be a Ducks Unlimited sponsor.
  • A special sponsorship and table of eight with a gun is $1,050 and includes banquet seating for eight, sponsor print and sponsor raffle, and a table-only gun raffle.
  • Greenwing Youth Membership is $35 — a special discounted ticket for all members 17 and younger.
  • Duck Bucks can be purchased; $100 gets you $140 in Duck Bucks.

Fish & Game meets April 9

Manitowoc Unit of Fish & Game will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. April 9 at Lincoln Park Cabin No. 1.

Meetings are at Lincoln Park until late fall. They are on the second Wednesday of each month, except in July. Members and the public can attend. They include a speaker, short business meeting, lunch and refreshments.

Speaker for the April 9 meeting will be Andy Janicki from Manitowoc Zoological Society. He will update the group on activities at the zoo and take questions. The zoo has a long history with Fish & Game, which played a role in its development.

An update will also be given on the club’s membership development. Member renewal and expansion is important to the organization’s future, a news release said.

GLC’s spring migration bird hike is April 19

Glacial Lakes Conservancy invites you to join them at 7:30 a.m. April 19 at Willow Creek Preserve for a spring migration bird hike to kick off a GLC day of celebrating Earth Day.

Jack Coulter, GLC volunteer and birding expert, will lead the group on a 90-minute walk to spot new migrants and record them in eBird.

Birders of all levels are welcome, although space is limited. To reserve a spot, email Miriam at [email protected].

County Deer Advisory Council to meet April 21

The County Deer Advisory Council will hold its next meeting at 6 p.m. April 21 at Woodland Dunes Nature Center and Preserve in Two Rivers.

CDAC discusses the health of the deer herd, number of antlerless permits and everything to do with the white-tailed deer in Manitowoc County. The meeting is open to the public.

Mishicot club to hold brat fry April 12

Mishicot Sportsmen’s Club will hold a brat fry from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 12. The club is at 13804 Jambo Creek Road, just west of Mishicot.

Friends of Branch River meeting slated for April 15

Friends of the Branch River will hold its meeting at 6 p.m. April 15 at Branch Station. A speaker from the DNR will talk about the Branch River. The meeting is open to the public.
