Season and permit deadlines
A calendar of upcoming hunting, trapping and fishing seasons and permit application deadlines.
* Indicates date remains the same each year, except some permit deadlines may be extended one day if they fall on a Sunday or Federal Holiday.
NOTE: Under an emergency rule past by the State Natural Resources Board, the ruffed grouse season that openened Sept. 15 in Zone A will now close on Dec. 31. This change is not reflected in printed regulations.
November 25
- Regular gun deer season closes.
November 26
- Muzzleloader deer season opens, through Dec. 5.
November 27
- Duck season closes in the north zone.
November 29
- Mourning dove season closes.*
November 30
- Muskellunge season closes.*
- Turtle season closes. *
December 1
- Lake trout season on Lake Superior opens, through Sept. 30.*
December 2
- Southern zone duck and goose seasons close.
- Canada goose seasons close in the South Exterior Zone. Reopens Dec. 16-Jan. 3
December 4
- Mississippi River zone duck season closes.
December 5
- Muzzleloader deer season closes.
December 8
- Ruffed grouse season closes in the zone B.*
December 6-9
- Antlerless-only firearm hunt.
December 10
- Spring turkey permit application deadline.*
- Application deadline for bear hunting kill permit.*
December 12
- Bobwhite quail season closes.
December 16
- Canada goose seasons reopens in the Southern Exterior Zone through Jan. 3.
December 24-January 1
- Antlerless only Holiday Hunt Only in valid farmland units. Please see deer regulations booklet for valid units.
December 25
- Bobcat hunting and trapping season closes in Period 1.
December 26
- Period 2 hunting and trapping season opens for bobcat north of Hwy. 64 through Jan. 31.
December 31

- Ruffed grouse seasons closes in zone A (northern zone). NOTE: the season is closing this year on Dec. 31 under and emergency rule and is not reflected in printed regulations.
