Dust off your Clan Tartan – brush up on your Gaidhlig and get ready for a spectacular wine pairing dinner – Scottish Outlander Style!
Wear your clan tartan plaid, rugged hunting wools or your prettiest Arisaid for a chance to win “Best Dressed on Theme”. (Scottish outfit optional – appetite required). We will feature an authentic menu inspired by the popular series (though we promise not to bring out the Haggis) and each course will be paired perfectly by our favorite expert, Nichole Ise. You won’t want to miss a thing on this blasta (delicious) menu:
Appetizer: Murtagh’s Gift to Ellen – the story behind this dish is wonderful. These are “bracelets” of puff pastry with asparagus and bacon. (Recipe by Theresa Carle-Sanders, Outlander Kitchen)
Soup: Scotch Broth Soup – a delicious, and healthy, traditional Scottish soup with root vegetables and barley in a satisfying bone broth. (our own adaptation of a recipe by Scottish/Italian Blogger, Christina Conte)
Salad: We went back to Claire Randall’s 1945-1949 time period in America for this course. Wedge Salad with “Brown Derby Old-Fashioned French Dressing (recipe adapted from The Food Timeline)
Entree: Mrs. Bug’s Slow Cooked Chicken Fricassee with Scottish Herbed Oat Cakes (modernized a bit) (Adapted from Outlander Kitchen by Theresa Carle-Sanders)
Dessert: Banoffee Trifle with Home-made Fresh “Crud” – A modern dessert, loved by Caitriona Balfe, with an old Scottish traditional Crowdie Cheese whipped cream. (Also adapted from Outlander Kitchen by Theresa Carle-Sanders.
