Phantom 5k A Success For Woodland Dunes

5/28/20 Two Rivers – Woodland Dunes Nature Center is encouraged by the success of its Dash At the Dunes event, which became a virtual run fundraiser, the “Phantom 5K,” due to the Covid-19 virus.  Over 200 participants walked, ran or hiked their way to a 5K medal from the middle of April to the middle of May and raised $8,500 for Woodland Dunes programs.

“We’ve never done a virtual fundraiser before and were really one of the first locally to do this, so we were fast-tracking into unknown territory on so many levels,” stated Nancy Nabak, Phantom 5K race director, “but the participants were awesome, flexible, and sent selfies while on their own private route.”

Woodland Dunes would like to thank the community sponsors who stayed with the event during this difficult time, even though it had to change its makeup mid-stream: Orthopedics & Sports Medicine BayCare Clinic, Shoreline Credit Union, KI, Fox Communities Credit Union, Lakeside Foods, Thrivent and Starfish Graphics.

Participant, Pam Robinson had this to say, ”Flexibility is the name of the game with this race! Gotta be willing to run through mud on the trails, on the road because we have a foot of snow (referencing our Dash two years ago right after the blizzard), or on our own to keep everyone safe!”

Everyone who registered and completed a 5K received a unique Phantom 5K race medal and will be mentioned by name in the fall Woodland Dunes newsletter.
