KAGE Welcomes its First Baitcaster

The new freshwater/saltwater crossover KAGE SV TW 150 is founded on DAIWA’s pioneering SV Concept and HYPERDRIVE® Design.

FOOTHILL RANCH, CA (February 10, 2025) – It’s said that big things come in little packages. And this adage wholly rings true with the new KAGE SV TW 150 baitcasting reel. The adaptable and palmable reel is jam packed with many of DAIWA’s most recent and sophisticated technologies, including the SV Concept and HYPERDRIVE® Design.

“It’s the first baitcaster in the KAGE collection, so we really wanted to load it up,” said DAIWA Field Marketing Specialist, Chris Martin. “In my mind, foremost is the inclusion of the SV Spool.” The KAGE SV TW 150’s features an SV (Stress-Free, Versatile) 34mm A7075 aircraft grade spool, which offers casting control like no other. The design of the spool, as well as how the spool interacts with the braking system, gives maximum control on the cast while simultaneously increasing casting distance.

KAGE SV TW 150’s second significant feature-set is HYPERDRIVE® DESIGN. Once limited to more expensive models, DAIWA employed “trickle down technology,” bringing HYPERDRIVE DESIGN to the KAGE SV TW 150. HYPERDRIVE DESIGN involves a combination of advanced manufacturing techniques, which considerably improve the performance and lifespan of the reel. More about individual HYPERDRIVE components below.

DAIWA’s new KAGE SV TW 150 also owns “crossover” status, as it’s designed for both freshwater and saltwater use. Martin explained: “We included corrosion resistant ball-bearings (CRBB) to make it saltwater grade. It’s a great benefit for anglers who fish in both environments.”

Cosmetically, the KAGE SV TW 150 is striking, too. The reel sports sleek red accents akin to the entire KAGE collection. Moreover, its premium cork handles are both signature and functional, as they tender a comfortable and firm grip.

On the freshwater side, Martin says the multipurpose KAGE SV TW 150 is a great choice for largemouth and smallmouth bass, white bass and light stripers, as well as casting hardbaits for walleyes. Inshore, the new baitcaster is a shoo-in for redfish, speckled trout, and flounder, as well as calico and spotted seabass on the west coast.

Also distinctive to the complete KAGE collection, the rods and reels are only available at independent brick and mortar dealers. “DAIWA has always supported grassroots dealers, giving them unique offerings that help create a loyal local following. We created KAGE for them.”

KAGE SV TW 150 FEATURES & TECHNOLOGIES:

SV TECHNOLOGY

The SV (Stress-Free, Versatile) 34mm A7075 aircraft grade spool was developed with one thing in mind: casting control. The design of the spool, as well as how the spool interacts with the braking system, gives maximum control on the cast while increasing casting distance. No backlashes. Longer casts.

HYPER ARMED HOUSING

A distortion-proof aluminum frame steadfastly houses the gear unit within the reel body. The concept comprises a combination of different manufacturing techniques, which considerably improve the functioning and lifespan of the reel.

HYPERDRIVE® DIGIGEAR®

Technology that makes the gear teeth more efficient at transferring power, resulting in a smoother, more powerful gear set that also reduces gear noise. The gears are also strengthened by larger teeth in the traction wheel. And, the gearing has three points of contact – most gearing has only two – which maintains contact between the gear teeth, creating silky performance and a longer gear life.

HYPERDRIVE® TOUGH CLUTCH

The clutch mechanics have been optimized to remain safely in position even on hard casts.

CRBB

Unlike ordinary, unprotected “corrosion resistant” bearings, DAIWA’s CRBB ball bearings are shielded to seal out sand, fine grit, salt crystals, and other abrasives for a longer life. CRBB ball bearings are 12 times more corrosion resistant than standard ball bearings.

T-WING SYSTEM (TWS)

An innovative “T” shaped mechanical aperture that the line passes through when casting and retrieving baits, which allows the line to flow freely, reducing friction and sharp angles that slow line flow. TWS is unique to DAIWA baitcasting reels.

ATD® (ADVANCED TOURNAMENT DRAG)

DAWIA employs an advanced drag grease that exhibits low viscosity at rest yet becomes more viscous immediately after drag start up. This reduces initial drag start-up inertia and results in a smoother drag from the initial hook up.

ZERO ADJUSTER

The spool tension knob comes ideally preset at the factory to match the model and reduce backlash when casting into the wind or with lighter lures. However, anglers can fine tune the spool tension to their personal preferences.

90mm SWEPT HANDLE

The increased torque turns the barrel with greater ease. Features an I-shaped premium cork knob.

PERFECT PAIRINGS

Color matched and action packed, DAIWA offers a full complement of KAGE rods, including models specific to bass, walleyes, and a selection of ultralight models. For bass, paired with the new KAGE SV TW 150 baitcaster, Martin likes the 7’ 3” medium-heavy (731MHFB-B) KAGE Premium Bass Rod as a masterful multipurpose tool. For throwing heavier lures like swimbaits, he recommends the 7’ 9” heavy (KAG791HRB-B) KAGE Premium Bass Rod. The full series includes 12 technique-specific models. MSRP on all models is $199.99.
