Jordan Lee Clinches MLF Bass Pro Tour Points Championship
|
STURGEON BAY, WI) – Abu Garcia® and Berkley® Pro Angler Jordan Lee is the 2020 Major League Fishing (MLF) Bass Pro Tour Angler of the Year, capturing the tour’s points champion at the final tour stop of the season in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Lee finished fourth overall in the final event, propelling him to the points championship.
At just 29 years old, Lee has had an impressive career that most seasoned veterans can only dream of, and this season was no exception. Even with the MLF season being abbreviated due to the pandemic, Lee finished in the Top 10 at four out of five events, including capturing first at the inaugural “Heavy Hitters” event on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes in Florida.
“To win points is the hardest thing to do in our sport, and being consistent all year, especially in a shortened season, is not easy to do,” said Lee. “I’m competing against the best fishermen in the world and in order to stay on top I need to make sure I maintain a ‘Fish to Win’ mindset at all times.”
For his championship-clinching performance, Lee relied heavily on the Berkley PowerBait® MaxScent Flat Worm in green pumpkin on a dropshot rig. With weather patterns changing throughout the tournament Lee opted to fish in 16 to 20 feet with a dropshot believing the water temperatures and fish behaviors would align with his technique. The changing weather coupled with flurries of hook-ups led to major swings in the point-by-point competition happening between Lee and Jacob Wheeler towards the end, leading to a major story line throughout Stage Five of the Bass Pro Tour in Wisconsin.
“I kept my attitude right and had confidence in my setup. Between my Abu Garcia rods and reels and the Berkley PowerBait MaxScent Flat Worms those Sturgeon Bay smallmouth didn’t stand a chance. With sponsors like Berkley with its scientifically proven baits, and Abu Garcia on my side I always know I have the right gear in my boat to get the job done,” said Lee.
“It’s an honor to have such a talented angler on our side who has so many years to continue to compete,” said Jon Schlosser, Vice President of Marketing for Abu Garcia and Berkley. “We’re really proud of Jordan and all that he has accomplished in such a short period of time, but this one is particularly noteworthy. We can’t wait to see him carry this momentum into next year’s REDCREST.”
