Good news this morning from a friend who has announced that he will become the new Naturalist/Caretaker of the Collins Marsh Nature Center. Conservation Education Incorporated (CEI) owns the property and for many years have been taking the public on educational trips through the marsh. Congratulations to James Downey who has been selected as the new caretaker of the Nature Center. He plans on moving into the house there this coming March and will be planning events and learning everything there is to know about the marsh. James has been a director on the Manitowoc County Fish & Game Prot. Assn as a member of the Manitowoc Unit of Fish & Game and recently stepped down to take this position with CEI. James hopes are to increase the awareness of all the outdoor opportunities in Manitowoc County and Collins Marsh. If anyone needs to reach James, you can call him at the nature center’s land-line phone and leave a message for him, or email the center at: [email protected]. I hope everyone who has never seen Collins Marsh or visited the Nature Center to plan on coming out this year to see it. The Fire Tower offers a wonderful view of the marsh and there is a history to the tower.
