Ducks Unlimited to Bring Wings Over Water IMAX Film to 70 Theaters on Earth Day
Dorsey Pictures and The Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation
congratulate Ducks Unlimited Canada on its decision to bring the
award-winning IMAX 3D film Wings Over Water, narrated by
Michael Keaton, to more than 70 theaters on Earth Day, April 22.
Wings Over Water is an epic celebration of North America’s prairie
wetlands and their importance to wildlife and humans. It tells the
story of three iconic bird species – the mallard, yellow warbler, and
sandhill crane – as they migrate to their hallowed and irreplaceable
breeding grounds. Since its release, the film has won numerous
awards including the prestigious “Best Film/Short Subject” from the
Giant Screen Cinema Association and the Children’s Award from
the Rotterdam Wildlife Film Festival.
Ducks Unlimited Canada has arranged for special pricing for the
Earth Day Screenings and made the film available for school group
bookings until May 31st at select theatres nationwide. It’s the largest
theatrical release of a nature documentary in Canada since 2019.
“We are thrilled by this news,” said Charles S. Potter Jr., executive
producer of Wings Over Water and president and CEO of the Max
McGraw Wildlife Foundation. “The prairie wetlands are among our
planet’s most vital ecosystems, and Canada is home to most of the
unspoiled wetlands that remain. DUC is ensuring that new
generations of Canadians understand their importance.”
McGraw led a coalition of conservation NGOs including Ducks
Unlimited Inc., Ducks Unlimited Canada, and the National Audubon
Society in driving the production of the film. It is a joint production
of Dorsey Pictures and Mission Partners Entertainment Group.
“These special screenings in Canada continue the film’s global
reach to brand the Prairie Wetlands as one of the planet’s most
ecologically important regions,” says Chris Dorsey, the film’s co-
executive producer and founder of Dorsey Pictures. “The film is
playing in theaters across the world in five languages and will soon
be available to global audiences through streaming and linear TV
platforms. In addition, content and curriculum from the film is being
distributed to more than 10,000 U.S. school systems reaching 8
million students weekly—the nation’s largest conservation
education platform.”
“‘Wings Over Water’ has educated a new generation of Americans
about the importance of the Prairie Pothole Region, and we’re
thrilled to see this award-winning film have a similar impact in
Canada,” said Ducks Unlimited CEO Adam Putnam.
“There’s no better way to spend Earth Day than discovering one of
our planet’s most under-appreciated ecosystems and the
thousands of wildlife species supported by it," Putnam added.
Helping students develop a greater appreciation for the importance
of the prairies will help us preserve this vital habitat for future
generations.”
Janine Massey, chief marketing officer of DU Canada, said
the organization is “pleased to be able to bring this engaging and
impactful film to audiences across Canada and hope it will inspire
the next generation of conservation leaders.”
