DNR Angler Recruitment Grants
Available – Apply By Feb. 15
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is encouraging individuals and organizations to submit grant applications to build the community of anglers through community and school-based fishing programs. This grant is supported by the federal Sport Fish Restoration fund, which is generated by an excise tax on fishing equipment and motorboat fuel. The deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2024.
Past grant recipients have used this grant to support in-depth Angler Education and Learn to Fish programs at schools, nature centers, parks, community centers and camps. They have delivered fly-fishing classes for women and veterans, trainings for people who work with anglers who are disabled, and built capacity for family and youth fishing programs in their neighborhoods and statewide.
Grant Cycles, Priorities
Grant cycles are for two years, and funding is available to the recipient when a grant agreement is signed by all parties, approximately one year after the application is submitted. As a reimbursement grant, only expenses incurred after the grant agreement is signed will be covered. The amount of available funding totals $30,000 with a cap of $5,000 per grant.
Priority will be given to projects that concentrate on groups that have been underrepresented in the fishing community. Programs for other adults who never learned how to fish as a youngster will also be considered as well as youth programs that will go beyond one-day events.
