John Deere parade a great way to remember history & more in the latest Manitowoc outdoors report
Bob Schuh shares the latest outdoors news from across Manitowoc County and beyond.
- The annual John Deere parade in Kellnersville featured around 60 tractors.
- The parade celebrates the history of John Deere tractors and the Lambert family’s business.
Saturday evening of Father’s Day weekend (June 14), Mary took me out for supper. We had a great meal in Kellnersville, and that put us in the right spot for the annual John Deere parade put on by the Lambert family and many of their friends and neighbors.
Many of these tractors were the two-cylinder variety, known as the “putt-putts” because of their unique sound from the 1950s and 1960s.
They had about 60 tractors in the parade, and some were driven by the grandsons of Charlie Lambert.

When I was just a kid, I would go with my dad to Lambert Implement for parts and/or shear pins for the baler. Charlie was the owner then, and in later years he turned the business over to his son, Kenny Lambert. Kenny ran the business until the days of the huge tractors that we have in the fields of today.
The parade is a great way to remember the history of the John Deere tractors in our rural areas and the people who sold them and maintained them for the local farmers.

Maribel club names in-club turkey contest winner
During the June meeting of the Maribel Sportsmen’s Club, we had the results of our in-club turkey contest.
Most people didn’t bring in their beards and spurs as they knew of Rick Schuh’s turkey, which I had featured in this column at the end of April.
Rick’s turkey tipped the scale at 27.7 pounds, sported a 12-inch beard and had 1-9/16-inch spurs.
That bird would have been hard to top in any contest.
