Bob Schuh has the latest outdoors news from Manitowoc County and beyond.

Maribel Sportsman’s Club held its 36th annual Cottontail Classic and Super Hunt Feb. 8. All winners were determined by luck of the draw.
It was a snowy day, but 236 hunters took part and 49 three-person teams competed.
In the Cottontail Classic, the winners were:
- first place (with trophy sponsored by Bank First) was Jake Schroeder;
- second place was Matt Spevacek;
- third place was Jeremiah Hassemer;
- fourth place was Jeff Lewis;
- fifth place was Dustin Kronforst; and
- sixth place was Troy Thor.

In the Super Hunt:

- first place included Joe Kvitek, Lance Hurda and Dalton Hurda;
- second place included Mark Hutterer, Brad Lau and Ken Lau; and
- third place included Tyler Coenen, Randy Coenen and Derrick Hlinak.

In the main gun raffle:
- first place was a Henry Golden Boy .17 HMR that went to Luke Meddaugh;
- second place was a Browning X Bolt 7 Rem. Mag. that went to David Hayes;
- third place was a Glock .41 .45 ACP that went to Francis Metz;
- fourth place was an ATI Over/Under 28-gauge Sporting that went to Paul Buresh; and
- fifth place was a Taurus M66 .357 that went to Shane Pautz.
Other winners included the following:
- The Hunt Gun was a Ruger 10/.22 that went to Jeremy Dondlinger.
- The first walk-around raffle was an RIA 9mm pistol that went to Gary Novitski Jr.
- The next walk-around raffle was a Ruger 10/.22 Tactical that went to Dawn Valenta.
- Another walk-around raffle was a Henry Golden Boy .22 mag that went to Scott Paquette.
- The final walk-around raffle was an ATI .410 Over/Under went to Josh Schmidt.
- The Sweetheart basket went to Brett Vandermuss.
- Green Bay Packers tickets went to Mark Ross.
- The first Mystery Raffle was $200 that went to Debbie Wendt.
- The second Mystery Raffle was a Puma .410 Over/Under that went to Roger Reilly.
- The third Mystery Raffle was a Ruger .380 CCP that went to Scott Paquette.
- The Memorial Gun Raffle — in memory of John Decker, Bob Brinkman and Nathan Chervanka — went to Anthony Shibler.
- The Food Pantry Raffle had a $50 gift certificate to Rob’s Family Market that went to Brantley Ebert.
- The Puppy Raffle went to Paige Franz.
- The kids’ raffle had 16 winners.
- The 100 square Savage 93R .17 HMR went to Roger Reilly.

NEWGLSF to hold 50th Annual Banquet
The Northeastern Wisconsin Great Lakes Sport Fishermen 50th Annual Banquet will be held at City Limits, 3627 County CR, Manitowoc, March 8.
Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. and the buffet dinner will be served 5-7 p.m.
Banquet tickets are available through March 5 at Popp’s Harbor Town Citgo, Manitowoc; Klein’s Hardware Hank, Two Rivers; or from Fred Schnell by calling 920-901-6020.
Tickets are $35 and no tickets will be sold at the door. A limit of 300 banquet tickets will be sold.
Raffle ticket packages must be picked up at City Limits between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. March 8 or when doors open for the event at 4:30 p.m. If picking up tickets in the morning, use the back door.
Raffle ticket packages must be ordered in advance from Fred Schnell by calling 920-901-6020.
In addition to a great dinner, hundreds of prizes in the form of door prizes, raffle prizes, and silent and live auction items will be included.
Northeastern Wisconsin Great Lakes Sport Fishermen supports natural resource preservation/enhancement plus events that promote outdoor youth mentoring.

Wisconsin DNR hiring for seasonal positions
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is hiring seasonal staff for Wisconsin’s state parks, forests, trails and recreation areas.
Seasonal staff are responsible for outdoor maintenance, facility maintenance, groundskeeping and customer service for property visitors.
Limited-term seasonal positions provide experience for a career in natural resources, an opportunity to gain or improve your skill set, and the chance to contribute to a positive outdoor experience for millions of visitors.
Seasonal work typically starts in the spring to early summer and extends through late summer to fall, with flexibility depending upon the candidate’s availability and the property’s needs.
Positions are available across the state, from the urban natural spaces in Milwaukee to the forests of northern Wisconsin and the islands and shores of the Great Lakes.
The following positions are open at various locations:
- Park rangers
- Visitor services associates
- Natural resources educators
- Assistant naturalist guides
- Park technicians
- Campground attendants
- Groundskeepers
