Access New Fishing Spots Via
Streambank Easements

Fishing is in full swing, and our many streambank easements offer a unique way to fish Wisconsin waters.

Check out the Public Access Lands Mapping Application.

Easements are parcels of land that the DNR has purchased public access rights to in order to help protect riparian corridors along coldwater and warmwater streams. These easements allow the DNR to access these areas for restoration and management activities and grant anglers, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts access to 66 feet of stream bank on either side of the stream.

It’s important to:

  • Remember that these easements may border private land. Please do not litter, trespass or vandalize the landowner’s property on your way to the easement.
  • Know where the easement starts and ends and stay on the easement (either on the shoreline or by wading into the stream).
  • Disinfect all of your fishing gear before and after you step into any waterbody to prevent the spread of fish diseases and aquatic invasive species. Simply washing your gear with soap and water and letting it dry completely between uses is an easy way to help keep fish and other aquatic species safe.

By being courteous, you can help ensure these easements are available for years to come.

Use the T.R.O.U.T. tool to find a fishing easement near you.
