Well, it’s here now. 2018 Bow Deer Season, and like many of you, I should be in the woods, moving around, killing all those wonderful bugs flying in front of my face and biting me on my bald spot. I had a problem this past week with getting back into my woods and the reason was all the water standing in my fields yet. My friend Jake helped me with using his truck to drive back to the spot I wanted to place my blind for my grandson to hunt out of. Well, after spending a few minutes to get the blind setup, we found out it was screwed up, well, I thought it was. The mosquitoes were so thick, I swear I heard an Air Traffic Controller telling all those mosquitoes where to land on either one of us. Man, are they thick this year. I have been praying since that night for a heavy freeze. Kill those little SOB’s. Well, we quit and I decided to drive up to CABELA’S in Green Bay where my son purchased the blind from. When I got to the store, I talked to a young lady who called someone to help me. CABELA’S could not have a sent me a more prefect person to help me. I was introduced to Bernie, who walked outside to my van to help me with my blind. Being handicapped like I am, it was hard to walk with two canes and still drag in the blind. Bernie took my blind out of the van, and within 2 minutes he had it setup for me. He took the time to help show me how to do it and why we were having problems with setting it up. I guess with all those damn mosquitoes biting us all the time, we twisted the blind up into a mess, which was my fault and no one else’s. Once he was done showing me, I told him to just throw it back into the van. No, he placed back into the carrying bag like it came and walked with me back into the store. I spent some time driving around the store in the handicap cart and I was looking for a chair for my grandson to sit on when we are together in the blind. I picked out a chair and after the store outfitter, a young man, helped me with it by putting it onto my cart for me, here comes Bernie and I explain abut my grandson is 5′ 11″ and size 13 shoe. Bernie told me that the chair I have is fine now for a 11 year old, but he’ll out grow it in a few years, maybe even next year. So Bernie suggested I look at another chair like one called Comfort Max Magnum and holds up to 300 lbs. Well my grandson is no 300 lbs, but who knows what he will be once in college. I decided to buy that chair for him, as I have several other ones that are bigger, that both my son and I love. In fact, during our Outdoor Writers Conference this past July, we both were very happy to have those chairs to sit on, so comfortable and solid. Well, Bernie was so nice to me and I told him to throw it in the cart. He asked if he could put it together for me, since he saw I had my chair in the van. The young man who was helping me said he would carry it out to my van for me, but Bernie told him to put it together for me. The young man said he never put one together, and Bernie said there is no better time to learn then right now. I took the paperwork up to check out and Bernie said he’ll meet me at the door. He carried my chair out to my van and I was so thankful that they help customers like that. Bottom line to all of this is, customer service is a huge thing today, but for a person who is handicapped, I really appreciated it. I hope all of you who are looking for outdoor items think of CABELA’S the next time you are looking for something, just ask the outfitter for help if you think you might have a problem. I also found a young man in the fishing section also, very very helpful. So in closing, Thank You CABELA’S for all the help and to Bernie for all the help he offered to me. I will never forget it.
