Homeschool Idea: Teaching Gun Safety to Kids & Coloring Contest
Our new routine involves sitting at the dining table each morning. I’m on my laptop while my 12-year-old is on a chrome book and my 1st grader fills out workbooks sheets. I put on a playlist of instrumental movie soundtracks and we get to it as best we can. We take frequent breaks and also make time to read together.
Now, to be clear, this is not an ad for Amazon or Kindle Unlimited, but please note that the links in this post are affiliate links. I have an Amazon Associate account where I will be compensated if you choose to purchase.
Our family loves to read so we pay for Kindle Unlimited. We took full advantage of the 30-day free trial when we signed up to make sure it was something we wanted to pay for monthly. So far it has been well worth it. Right now we’re turning pages on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Illustrated Family Bible but as we run out of physical books at home, there’s Kindle Unlimited to tap into.
You don’t even have to have a Kindle to take advantage of the program. Download the Kindle app on your smartphone or other devices to:
- Enjoy unlimited access to over 1 million books.
- Explore a rotating selection of popular magazines.
- Listen to thousands of books with Audible narration.
- Read anytime, on any device with the Kindle app.
There are so many excellent children’s books on Kindle Unlimited, from books on science experiments and math workbooks to cute stories for little ones. My book Toys, Tools, Guns & Rules: A Children’s Book About Gun Safety is also on Kindle Unlimited and now is a great time to talk to your kids about gun safety especially when you have their attention as you shelter in place. The best part, if you take advantage of the Kindle Unlimited trial, it’s free to read.
Free printables and video
I also have free downloads here at juliegolob.com. That means no app or purchase required. Simply print off the firearm safety rules for kids download and have an important discussion about gun safety with your family.
You can also print off the Toys, Tools, Guns & Rules Coloring Pages. They’ll not only help you reinforce this critical message but can your keep your little ones entertained too. There are also Spanish versions of these downloads – para en Espanol!

Finally, I’ll be hosting coloring contests online on Facebook and Instagram. Be sure to follow me on each to catch the posts later this week
