Properly dispose of deer carcasses
Before you head out into the field this fall, have a plan to dispose of your deer carcass if your hunt is successful.
The infectious nature of CWD prions contributes to an increased risk of introduction and spread of CWD if deer carcasses are not disposed of correctly.
We recommend disposing of a carcass in a landfill that accepts deer carcasses, in a dumpster designated for deer carcass waste or at a transfer station. If none of these options are available, and the deer was harvested on private land, burying the deer carcass waste or returning it to the location of harvest with private land owner’s permission is the next best option.
