Northern Lake Michigan Fishing Report: April 2, 2018
The fishing pressure is low throughout Door Co. as the steelhead have not shown up in the streams in mass numbers yet. Heins Creek has received the most fishing pressure for steelhead with no fish to show for while I was on creel route. Baileys Harbor has received fishing pressure for anglers going out for Brown Trout, with little success though. The few fish that are being caught have been in the 25-40 feet of water. The city launch in Sturgeon Bay was opened up by anglers over the weekend, with multiple boats heading out. No interviews were conducted with anglers. There are no docks in at the city launch or the Baileys Harbor launch. Anglers fishing out of Stone Quarry have had little success fishing for whitefish. The number of anglers fishing on the bay has decreased throughout the week.
Door County – Lakeside
- Rowelys Bay Ramp: One boat was spotted fishing inside Rowelys Bay. The harbor is clear of ice.
- Rowely’s Bay Pier: Anglers have been fishing off the pier for brown trout and northern with no luck.
- Bailey’s Harbor Ramp: Anglers have been going out in boats for browns over the past week with little success. The few fish that were caught were between 25 to 40 feet of water.
Door County – Bayside
- Heins Creek: Although low, Heins creek has revieved the highest amount of angling pressure out of the streams in Door Co. Anglers are targeting steelhead with no luck.
Door County – Sturgeon Bay Canal
- A few anglers were fishing on the canal from shore with no luck.
West Shore Green Bay Ice Creel Report: April 2, 2019
Oconto County
- Geano’s Beach: Ice still thick near launch. No anglers observed, nor interviews taken.
- Oconto Breakwater: Anglers fishing what is left of the ice on Tuesday reported catching a few whitefish and a few smaller male walleyes. The ice conditions are rapidly deteriorating, and open water is rapidly expanding at the mouth of the river. Pike ice anglers fishing north of the breakwater report slow fishing with no fish caught in 10 hours of tip-up fishing. Later in the week the ice at the end disappeared and boats were seen fishing the river channel out into the bay a ways. Anglers reported catching a few walleyes and whitefish from boats.
- Peshtigo River: High water was observed at the dam in town, a few anglers got out in boats but report slow fishing. Water temperature in the Peshtigo was 35-38 degrees over the weekend. Anglers fishing the city landing from shore report tough fishing conditions but managed one or two smaller walleye.
- Oconto Parks: Anglers report catching a few walleye and northerns out of the Oconto Parks on tip-ups and jig poles fishing what’s left of the ice.
- Menominee River: Brown trout are reported being caught off of the Hattie street bridge and along the shore up to the dam on both sides of the river during the day. Reports of big walleye being caught off Hattie street at night are also coming in. Anglers using rapalas catching the most fish. Two gates of the dam were wide open and lots of current was observed. Stephenson island boat launch is open, and heavy boat traffic was observed over the weekend.
Brown County
- Fox River: A lot of action on the Fox River this past weekend, however reported catch rates were low to fair over the weekend with only one boat interviewed catching over five walleye. A few anglers reported catching one or two walleyes in mid-20 inch size range, well other boats reporting catching a few 12”-15” walleye. Lots of boaters utilizing Fox Point and the Brown County Fairgrounds, with a few observed launching at Metro. High winds and lower water temperatures may have influenced lower catch rates over the weekend. Walleye fishermen are also picking up a few whitefish, perch, and other rough fish.
- Duck Creek: Water is open under 41 bridge but ice still present at both launches. No anglers observed.
- Long Tail Point: Ice still present around launches. No anglers observed.
- Suamico River: One father/son pair was fishing from shore for anything they could catch but weren’t having any luck when interviewed. One boater observed fishing on the river, no interview taken.
- Sunset Beach: Anglers report slow fishing for pike. Very few fish were reported caught, with a few smaller fish caught and kept.
East Shore Green Bay Ice Creel Report: March 25, 2019
There were a few people out at Stone Quarry, Oak Ave, and Cabot’s Point. Anglers at Stone Quarry report seeing whitefish but were unable to catch anything.
