For healthy deer in winter, you can help, DON’T FORGET THE CDAC MEETING ON MARCH 16, 2019 AT VIKING BOW & GUN 6 PM

With a blanket of snow covering the state and temperatures dipping below zero, the Wisconsin winter has a lot of folks thinking: what can we do to ensure deer and other wildlife populations continue to thrive?

Improving the habitat on the land you own or hunt will benefit the wildlife we all enjoy.  Wisconsin’s Deer Management Assistance Program can help us achieve that shared goal. DMAP provides assistance to landowners of any property size and with any level of experience to improve habitat for wildlife. DMAP cooperators benefit from sharing information and networking with other conservation-minded landowners and resource professionals. You can learn more about the program in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-Un-N7cBZY&t=3s

“A deer’s best friends are a habitat management plan and an active chain saw. The DMAP program provides the former;

I do all the rest…and the results speak for themselves!”

– Brad, Sawyer Co. DMAP cooperator

DMAP is a voluntary program with optional recommendations aimed at achieving YOUR goals for your property. We’ll give you a range of tools and options, and it’s up to you to choose what works best to get to where you want to go.

Landowners with at least 160 acres who are interested in receiving a site visit in 2019 from wildlife and forestry professionals through the Deer Management Assistance Program are reminded to submit an application by March 1.

To learn more about DMAP and what it can do for your hunt, check out this Wild Wisconsin: Off the Record podcast featuring two DMAP cooperators. For more general information and to ENROLL in DMAP, search keyword “DMAP.”

If you’re a Wisconsin hunter, you have a chance to play a bigger role in local deer management. Come to your CDAC meeting this March and let your voice be heard

County Deer Advisory Councils will begin spring meetings in mid-March to start discussing antlerless harvest quotas, permit levels and options for the 2019 deer seasons.

All CDAC meetings are open to the public, including opportunity to provide feedback, as each council develops preliminary recommendations. A meeting schedule and more information is available at keyword “CDAC.”

If you are unable to make it to a CDAC meeting, you can also review and comment on preliminary recommendations through an online survey on the CDAC Web page from April 2-12.
