DNR investigating illegal shooting of bald eagle in Manitowoc County
MANITOWOC COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY) – The illegal shooting of a bald eagle is under investigation in Manitowoc County.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Bureau of Law Enforcement is asking for the public’s help identifying the person or people responsible.
On Dec. 7, private landowners reported seeing an injured eagle in the Village of Mishicot, off Randolph Street. The bird flew away and was spotted the next day at a nearby property.
The eagle was rescued by Wildlife of Wisconsin. A veterinarian examined the bird and determined it had injuries consistent with being shot.
The eagle, which is federally protected, later died from its injuries.
The DNR says the bird may have been feeding at one of the rivers in the Mishicot area before it was shot.
