4-Year-Old Girl Wounded After Burglars Open Fire, Father Takes Them Out
Lacombe, LA – A four-year-old girl was shot during a gun battle between her father and four armed home intruders earlier this month.
The incident occurred at a residence on Palmer Drive at approximately 10 a.m. on Dec. 8, WVUE reported.
Police said the four armed suspects forced their way into the house, at which point they were all shot by the homeowner, The Times-Picayune reported.
Two of the suspects, 21-year-old Justin Hill and 25-year-old Renard Causey Jr., died from their wounds at the scene, according to WVUE.
The homeowner’s four-year-old daughter was also struck in the shooting, according to police.
She was rushed to a local hospital, where she was taken into surgery, family members told KVUE.
The little girl’s family said she is expected to recover from her wounds.
The two other suspects, 43-year-old Renard Causey Sr. and 22-year-old Jason LeBlanc, were also shot by the homeowner during the home invasion, The Times-Picayune reported.
They were transported to local hospitals for treatment, and have since been released and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on first-degree murder charges.
They also face additional counts of armed robbery and home invasion, WDSU reported.
Investigators have not released any information regarding why the home was targeted in the broad-daylight attack.
It is unclear how many rounds were fired during the shootout, or by whom.
“While it is always tragic anytime there is a loss of life, I am pleased that due to the rapid response time of our deputies all parties that were involved in this isolated incident have been accounted for,” St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith told KLFY.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sergeant Suzanne Carboni told The Times-Picayune on Wednesday.
The homeowner is not facing any charges in connection with the shooting, according to The Times-Picayune.
