Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee held a hearing Wednesday on new gun control legislation Democrats plan to push on the American people. The top Republican on the committee, Doug Collins, R-Ga., asked committee Democrats if I could testify about this legislation in an appropriate setting to offer another perspective as both a survivor of a shooting attack and strong supporter of our Second Amendment rights. But the Democrats said no. While liberals may try to silence conservative voices, I will not be silenced. The American people deserve to hear all perspectives. Here is the testimony I planned to give: |

Earlier in the legislative session, Proposed House Bill 5700 was introduced to impose a 50% tax on lawful ammunition sales. Proposed HB 5700 has been referred to the Connecticut state Joint Committee on Finance, Revenue and Bonding, but has not yet been scheduled for a hearing. |

On February 6th, The Family Defense Act, House File 259, was introduced to improve the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves and their families by reducing arbitrary boundaries that leave them defenseless. HF 259 has not yet been assigned to a committee for further consideration. |

This week, House Bill 1284 and House Bill 1643 have passed committee and will now head to the House floor for further consideration. HB 1284, which would enhance protections afforded to law-abiding citizens acting in defense of themselves and others, has been placed on the House floor calendar for February 7th. HB 1643 would improve the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves in Indiana by eliminating fees and reducing the areas where they would be left defenseless. HB 1643 is expected to be placed on the House floor calendar in the near future. |

Let’s say a stalker threatens a female friend of yours. She asks you if she can borrow your handgun. She is trained and has no criminal record. Should you loan her your gun? Under a bill being heard today before the House Judiciary Committee, loaning her your gun soon could land you in prison. An exception is made only for cases of “imminent” danger — where her stalker is right in front of her at that very moment. Even those annual Boy Scout shooting trips will face legal dangers. Adults who lend troops their guns for a day might soon find themselves in prison. |

In just hours the House Judiciary Committee will hold its first hearing on gun violence in eight years. And it comes one week before the one-year anniversary of the Parkland High School shooting in Florida which happened on Valentine’s Day last year. |

From the ‘green new deal’ to increasing gun control and limiting free speech, Republicans must lay out the Democratic Party’s radical agenda, says Liz Cheney, chairwoman of the House Republican Conference. |
|
|
Liberal Democrats are pushing legislation to ban assault weapons, hoping to flex their muscles with the new House majority to revive the controversial prohibition on military-style firearms that expired 15 years ago. The effort by progressives will pose a challenge for House Democratic leaders and test how far they are willing to go when it comes to gun control. Party leaders have made clear they intend to tackle gun reform early this year but plan on prioritizing a background check bill that enjoys bipartisan backing on Capitol Hill and the overwhelming support of voters nationwide. |
