The Wisconsin DNR Bureau of Law Enforcement is hiring Investigative Wardens within the bureau of law enforcement. Currently, the bureau has opening(s) for an investigative warden with statewide responsibility in both the eastern and western halves of Wisconsin. Candidates must live within 50 driving miles of their assigned office. Multiple office locations throughout Wisconsin exist including Spooner, Baldwin, Lacrosse, Fitchburg, Green Bay, Wautoma, Plymouth, Milwaukee or Black River Falls. Position Summary: Special Investigative Wardens are law enforcement officers that serve to protect public health, natural resources, and the environment by investigating environmental violations including but not limited to hazardous waste, asbestos, wastewater, and drinking water. Investigators also specialize in investigating the commercialization of fish, game, timber and other Wisconsin natural resources. Investigative wardens fulfill a unique niche with the DNR’s Bureau of Law Enforcement (LE) with special emphasis on protecting the states natural resources from disease introductions, overharvest, pollution, and commercialization. Special Notes: To be a law enforcement officer in Wisconsin for the Wisconsin DNR you must 1) be at least 18 years of age; 2) have no unpardoned felony or domestic violence convictions; 3) possess 60 college credits from an accredited institution or a college credit waiver from the Wisconsin Department of Justice; 4) possess a valid driver’s license with no OWI convictions within one year, and no more than 3 moving violations or at fault accidents within the past two years; and 5) upon appointment, all applicants must possess certification in ATV, Boating, and Snowmobile Safety. Completion of a police academy is not required to apply.
Additionally, appointment may be subject to successful completion of the following 1) physical fitness assessments; 2) background investigation; and 3) psychological testing, drug screen and medical examinations.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
– Experience collaborating with interagency customers, or internal and external customers or partners, etc.
– Experience with legal, technical and complex documents (reading, understanding, producing or editing complex, technical or legal documents)
– Experience working on teams (e.g. teamwork, team sports, integrating teams across programs, etc.)
Well-qualified candidates will have:
– Experience enforcing natural resources and/or environmental laws as a law enforcement officer
– Experience with the management, coordination or participation with complex civil enforcement actions (Courts, enforcement specialist, legal counsel, government regulatory experience, etc.)
– Experience as a law enforcement officer
– Experience (professional or volunteer) teaching, tutoring, training, guiding, mentoring or coaching others
– Education in a related field
