TREES FOR TOMORROW EMPOWERS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO PURSUE THEIR NATURAL RESOURCES CAREER GOALS

Eagle River, WI – Trees For Tomorrow (TFT), a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering sustainable management of natural resources through hands-on educational experiences, announces its 2020 Natural Resources Careers Exploration Week for high school sophomores, juniors and graduating seniors.

At this summer workshop, set for June 14-19 on Trees For Tomorrow’s campus in Eagle River, students will experience careers in forestry, wildlife, soils, water resources, fisheries, wood technology and more! Working directly with natural resource professionals, they will enjoy hands-on experiences while being provided with strategies for applying to colleges and internships during a Natural Resource College Fair.

“Attending students will emerge from this workshop with an enhanced knowledge of the full range of career options, with a specific focus on managing natural resources in a sustainable manner,” said Amy Ester, program coordinator. “Participants will engage in a learning environment that nurtures their curiosity and provides them with focused instruction along with academic and college counseling, and mentoring.”

This workshop is a cooperative effort between Trees For Tomorrow, county, state and federal natural resource agencies, and corporate sponsors including Domtar, Cellcom, Weyerhauser, and the Wisconsin County Forests Association. Scholarship donations from these partners make it possible for us to offer this program for only $200/student, which includes five days of valuable instruction, materials, local transportation, lodging and three homemade meals each day.

Additional financial assistance may be available for students who demonstrate high need. Participation is limited to 30, and students must complete an application including a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school counselor. Applications can be found online at www.TreeesForTomorrow.com and are due by April 10th.

“It’s very important that students bring the interest and maturity level needed to ensure a positive and productive workshop for both themselves and others,” Ester added. “With over 50 years of experience hosting this workshop, we know that students who are fully-engaged find this a life-changing experience and often form friendships that last a lifetime.”
