The Best Way to Prepare Frozen Chicken Wings in The Air Fryer

Chicken wings are one of those appetizers that are perfect to munch on whether it’s sitting around the tv watching the game or hosting a birthday party in the backyard. Before air fryers (yes, there was a time when air fryers didn’t exist!) many home cooks would either spend all day at the stove frying batch after batch of chicken wings in hot oil or they would settle for barely crisp wings from the oven. However, that all changed the day air fryers were introduced to (what it seems) every home in America. And thus, making crispy chicken wings from frozen in the air fryer is now possible.

When I host I hate spending all my time in the kitchen fussing over the food. That’s one of the reasons why I love air fried chicken wings. All I need to do is purchase a package of frozen chicken wings at the grocery store and pop them in the air fryer. This no-thaw method is great for air frying frozen wings you haven’t had a chance to defrost safely

Air fryer wings are relatively fast to make whether they are fresh or frozen. Fresh chicken wings take about 20 minutes while frozen wings take 23-25 minutes at 400F.

Preheat your air fryer for a few minutes before adding your wings and cook until they reach the desired internal temperature of 165F.

Some prepared frozen chicken wings such as Tyson Any’tizers may or may not have air frying instructions included on the packaging. Use the timing above to cook these wings in your air fryer instead of the conventional oven, grill, or microwave.

It should be noted, this air fryer recipe does have some limitations, mainly when it comes to dry seasoning and adding on a dry rub. Air frying is also limited based on the size of the air fryer basket, so if you are making a chicken wings recipe for a very large crowd, you might want to try a different method.

HOW TO SEASON AND FLAVOR FROZEN CHICKEN WINGS

Since trying to stick dry rub on a frozen piece of meat is nearly impossible, if you are planning on cooking frozen chicken wings, the best way is to coat the cooked wings with a sauce such as buffalo or teriyaki. The sauce will cling to the crispy skin readily and can be paired with dipping sauces like ranch dressing or blue cheese.
