Sparta High School Wins FLW High School Fishing Mississippi River Open

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Wisconsin’s Sparta High School duo of Noah Gann and Nick Gann brought five bass to the scale Saturday weighing 13 pounds, 14 ounces to win the FLW High School Fishing presented by Favorite Fishing Mississippi River Open in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

For their win on the Mississippi River, the team now advances to the 2021 High School Fishing National Championship.

The top two teams that qualified for the 2021 High School Fishing National Championship are:

1st: Sparta High School, Sparta, Wis. – Noah Gann and Nick Gann, five bass, 13-14

2nd: Caledonia High School, Caledonia, Minn. – Ely Ranzenberger and Jermiah Jacobson, five bass, 12-11

Rounding out the top 10 were:

3rd: Eau Claire High School, Eau Claire, Wis. – Nick Owens and Chad Kron, five bass, 12-9

4th: East West Anglers – Brant Rowland and Nick Frisk, both of Little Suamico, Wis., five bass, 12-5

5th: Melrose-Mindoro High School, Melrose, Wis. – Hayden Fry and Carson Koss, four bass, 8-9

6th: Cedar Falls High School, Cedar Falls, Iowa – Cade Hoover and Carter Frost, four bass, 6-9

7th: Melrose-Mindoro High School, Melrose, Wis. – Ethan Stanton and Cael Cogdill, three bass, 6-4

8th: Minnesota Student Anglers – Brady Grupa of La Crescent, Minn., and Treyton Thesing of Eyota, Minn., three bass, 5-8

9th: Rochester Public Schools – Ellie Hoffarth of Pine Island, Minn., and Cody Niemann of Rochester, Minn., two bass, 4-8

10th: Wisconsin Student Anglers – David Hiles of Mindoro, Wis., and Cole Fitzpatrick of La Crosse, Wis., two bass, 4-1

The event launched from the Stoddard Boat Ramp in Stoddard, Wisconsin, and was hosted by the La Crosse Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The FLW High School Fishing presented by Favorite Fishing Mississippi River Open in La Crosse, Wisconsin, was a free, two-person (team) event for students in grades 7-12 and open to any FLW and Student Angler Federation-affiliated high school club. The top 10 percent of teams at each Open event along with the TBF High School Fishing state championships will advance to the 2021 High School Fishing National Championship. The High School Fishing national champions will each receive a $5,000 college scholarship to the school of their choice.

In addition to the High School Fishing National Championship, all High School Fishing anglers nationwide automatically qualify for the world’s largest open high school bass tournament, the 2021 High School Fishing World Finals, held in conjunction with the National Championship. More than $2.8 million in scholarships and prizes were offered at the 2020 World Finals.
