NSSF WARNS OF NEW BILL INTRODUCED TO ALLOW SUING OF FIREARMS MANUFACTURERS

Yesterday, lawmakers in Washington, D.C. introduced legislation to allow victims of shootings to sue firearms manufacturers and effectively end the protections of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which protects the industry from frivolous lawsuits intended to bankrupt businesses like yours.

In addition to repealing the PLCAA, this bill would allow anyone filing civil lawsuits in state and federal courts to subpoena and introduce gun trace data maintained by ATF.

Introduced by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), the bill is also backed by the deep-pockets of groups like Giffords and Everytown for Gun Safety.

If passed, the proposed legislation would act as a backdoor to gun control. Firearms manufacturers and retailers could be targeted with countless lawsuits, opening the floodgates for hundreds of millions of dollars of economic strain on the industry.

Law abiding citizens running lawful businesses should not be held accountable for the actions of criminals.

NSSF is committed to defending the industry against this and every attack on your right to operate your business.

Stand with NSSF.
