Those are just a couple of new rules on guns proposed in four bills that have been introduced in the state legislature are intended to close loopholes and keep firearms out of the hands of people who aren’t supposed to have one, backers say.

Michigan: House Passes CPL Reform Bill
On May 24th, the Michigan House of Representatives voted 90-19 to pass House Bill 4434 to reduce the penalty for law-abiding citizens who forget to renew their Concealed Pistol License in certain instances.  HB 4434 will now go to the state Senate for further consideration, but has not yet received a committee referral.

Man who stole car with 6-year-old boy inside shot by boy’s father, deputies say external site
A man accused of stealing a car with a 6-year-old boy inside in West Palm Beach and crashing it in Lantana early Saturday was shot by the boy’s father, deputies said. Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Lamar Thurman, 29, drove away in the car, which was parked in front of a home on Roberts Lane, while the engine was on and the boy was inside as his father was saying goodbye to friends.

Man shot in neighbor’s home charged after allegedly undressing in 12-year-old’s bedroom during break-in external site
The mother of a 12-year-old girl says her daughter did everything right when a man broke into their home and began undressing in the girl’s bedroom over the weekend.  Donald Oliver, 38, was in court Monday morning, a day after he was shot while allegedly breaking into the home in the 1200 block of Homeview Avenue, near Taylor Blvd.

Fingerprinting For FOID Cards Clears IL House external site
The legislation would require a one-time submission of fingerprints to get or renew a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) Card or concealed carry license. The fingerprints would go into Illinois State Police and FBI databases, which track criminal records and prior FOID card suspensions or revocations. Opponents argue it would treat law-abiding citizens like criminals. But state Rep. Kathleen Willis, a Democrat from Addison, said Illinois already uses fingerprinting for a variety of safety measures.

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo responded to several critics who slammed him on Wednesday over a tweet they said appeared to mock National Rifle Association (NRA) member and rape survivor Kimberly Corban.
