| Ravenwood hunting lodge owner Ken Corbet tracked down votes Tuesday to advance a House bill allowing Kansas landowners to resell their permits for hunting white-tail deer on the open market at any price to nonresidents of the state. The controversial legislation survived a first-round vote 63-60 but has yet to run the Senate gauntlet and earn the endorsement of Gov. Laura Kelly. At least five similar bills have failed to survive the legislative process in the past couple of years. |

Mike Thompson, D-Calif., who heads a House task force on gun violence established by Democrats. The panel is examining conceal-carry reciprocity laws, “red flag” laws targeting gun owners who are deemed a safety risk, and laws to protect children from accessing guns, Democrats said. |

| When general and admirals speak, veterans like me tend to listen. That’s why I perked up at a recent letter from the political gun-control group Giffords Veterans Coalition signed by 13 retired officers. That letter advised Congress that passing background checks that ban private gun sales is a moral imperative. They contend this infringement on constitutional rights is necessary to protect American safety. There are a few things the military just won’t tolerate. Lack of discipline. Disrespect. Getting out of step. I should know—I spent 25 years instilling those values into my Marines. On this, though, I can’t salute. These military officers claim the moral high ground in the gun debate. Their service is admirable, but they hardly speak for all of us. I’ve been to war, and I won’t forget those who prey on disarmed societies. |

| The House of Representatives is expected to vote Wednesday on misguided legislationthat supposedly would improve criminal background checks of gun buyers and keep guns out of the hands of criminals. But instead of closing loopholes that allow criminals to access firearms, the bill by House Democrats could turn millions of law-abiding American gun owners into felons. Yes, you read that right. |
