The Manitowoc Unit of Fish & Game held its April meeting on Wednesday evening April 13th and completed a variety of business updates and activities.  There was a report on the successful Fish & Game Lenten Fish Fry event at 7 Lakes Golf & Dining on April 8th.  This event raised over $1200 for the organization, funds used for community projects and activities.

Members of the Manitowoc Unit wasted no time putting that money to work, donating $500 to the Manitowoc Gun Club for their BirdBusters youth shooting program at the club.  This program targets 10 to 18 yr olds and college students to get them involved in the shooting sports.  The program has been growing and in May the club will host a statewide shoot expecting more than 500 youth shooters.  The Manitowoc Unit is a regular supporter of this activity and seeks to get youth involved in the outdoors.  The club also voted to offer BirdBuster youth members a free membership to their unit in 2022.

A second $500 donation was approved for the Manitowoc Mountain Bike Trail Club for development and maintenance of additional trails at Vits Park in the city of Manitowoc.  This is the second major donation to this group to support their activity of creating sustainable bike trails in Manitowoc County.  The unit cited their attention to creating trails that the public could enjoy for a variety of purposes, using strong conservation practices.  Vits Park, on the city’s west side, has undergone major work, with a new parking, restroom and access area on its south end.

Manitowoc Fish & Game works to promote and protect the rights of sporting men and women in the county through a variety of projects and education programming.  It is one of 25 clubs that work together in Manitowoc County.  The group was founded in 1907 and is recognized as one of the oldest known conservation groups in the nation.
